In June of 2011 Batavia hosted its first benefit concert for Blazing Prairie Stars, an organization that helps children with disabilities through equine therapy.*** Since 2011, there have been numerous shows to raise money for this wonderful nonprofit organization. Local musicians banded together to donate their time, talent, and resources to make this first show possible. Bob Giffey was one of those musicians. In December of 2016, we lost Bob very suddenly to a heart attack. Music was Bob's passion, but music combined with charity work was his biggest passion. Thanks to Blazing Prairie Stars, Bob's band mates and musical partners, his family, and friends, the money raised from this event will go to create a memorial scholarship in honor of Bob. This will be a Star Wars themed event (so get your Vader on) and happens to fall on a very special date to Bob's family and wife: their anniversary. Please join us for a wonderful day in honor of a wonderful man. Spread the word, tell your neighbors, tell your friends, we can't wait to see everyone on this very special day!
*weather permitting, music will move indoors inclement weather
**a small amount of masks will be available upon request...light sabers must be checked, or at least be w/o kyber crystals
***Blazing Prairie Stars and Natural Balance work cooperatively to provide equine assisted therapies. They offer a wide array of programs from Equine Assisted Psychotherapy which includes individual, family, and group counseling to Therapeutic Riding, which helps children and adults with diagnoses use horses to help reach their goals whether they be physical, emotional, or social. Other programs include groups for Scouts, field trips, Marklund Little Angels (which is a home for children and young adults with severe disabilities), and social skills groups for youth.
